jNewsGate is a plugin based NNTP server written in Java intended to fetch different news-like content (RSS feeds, news sites, web forums) and provide it to a NNTP news reader.
At the moment there is no nifty GUI available - just a config file to enable/disable plugins and to configure source URLs.
Of course, there are far too less plugins available - at the moment it is possible to read heise.de news (a German online magazine), fetch articles from Groogle Groups and read phpBB boards that use the "standard" theme. You see, lots of work to do - if you want to help, contact me!
For getting started with writing new plugins, look at the information and source code of the "example" plugin available in the source distribution.
Of course, better documentation is never bad - so if you want to help, just tell me.
The original registration description is online as well. A List of questions and answers may help for getting started.
jNewsGate requires a Java Runtime Environment (Standard Edition, 1.4 or higher). If you do not have it yet, download it for free from java.sun.com.
Binary download (Version 0.2, 96 KB)
Source download (Version 0.2, 77 KB)
All available plugins are included.
You can also get the latest "bleeding edge" source code from CVS.
